Two female Russian debt collectors have been accused of taking a woman’s 10-month-old baby girl as collateral, after she failed to pay back a loan, a state media said on Monday.
The collectors were said to have abducted the child at the woman’s home in a suburb of the country’s second largest city, St Petersburg, while demanding the money she had borrowed.
“The mother, 40, had failed to pay back the loan because of a lack of funds,’’ a police representative said in comments broadcast by state news agency TASS.
The report also said the debt collectors later brought the baby to a police station, from where the child was returned to the parents.
Investigation is said to be under way into the incident.
