Tottenham Beat Newcastle, Go Second

Tottenham Hotspur leap-frogged Manchester City into second place after Saturday’s 1-0 win against Newcastle United in a Premier League game at Wembley Stadium.

Son Heung-Min was the hero for Spurs as his 83rd minute goal, a low shot from 20 yard, gave his side the hardfought win.

Spurs are now temporarily second on 57 points while Manchester City, who will host Arsenal on Sunday, drop to third in the league table.

Newcastle are 14th on 24 points and could drop to the relegation zone if Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace, who all have 23 points, get positive results later on Saturday.

Newcastle have now lost their last eight visits to Wembley in all competitions since winning the 1955 FA Cup final against Manchester City – the worst ever losing run by a team at the stadium.

Saturday’s result means none of Spurs’ last 21 Premier League home games against Newcastle have ended as a draw (13 wins for Spurs, 8 wins for Newcastle).
