The Lagos State government has confirmed that a total number of 20 persons were killed by the collapsed building in Ita-Faji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday.
Adeola Salako, Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Health, said this in a statement issued on behalf of the ministry on Friday.
Salako quoted Jide Idris, Lagos State Commissioner of Health, as saying that 20 victims were brought in dead to the Lagos Island General Hospital.
Idris also stated that 45 persons survived the incident and were receiving treatment at the hospital.
“Out of the 45 survivors known to the state government, as at this morning, 14 (10 children and 4 adults) are still receiving medical attention at Lagos Island General Hospital.
“According to the Medical Director of Lagos Island General Hospital, Dr Ismail Gani-Kale, more survivors will still be discharged to their families before the close of work today,” the statement read in part.
