The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should declare its candidate, Nyesom Wike, as the winner of the state governorship election held on Saturday.
Felix Obuah, Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, made the demand while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday.
According to him, the ruling party in the state has irrefutable evidence to prove that Wike, the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, won the election “overwhelmingly.”
He said: “With the available results so far from the field, I want to assure you that his excellency (Wike) has won overwhelmingly and INEC should not waste time in declaring Governor Nyesom Wike the winner and governor-elect of Rivers State.
“We are not worried about what some people are saying. The truth is that with the results from the field, the incumbent governor should be declared governor-elect.
“Results from all polling units and constituencies where elections were concluded have confirmed and reaffirmed to us that Rivers State is the PDP. The PDP is our way of life in Rivers State.”
Obuah insisted that the people of Rivers State voted for Governor Wike and that INEC should respect their will by declaring the governor winner of the election.
“With 26 state constituencies already declared for the PDP across the state, it is crystal clear that our governor, his excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been re-elected by the good people of Rivers State,” he added.
