NASS Leadership: Shettima Ditches Borno’s Ndume, Endorses Lawan

Kashim Shettima, Governor of Borno State, has endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the office of the Senate President of the incoming ninth National Assembly.

Governor Shettima, who is a Senator-elect under the platform of the APC in the incoming National Assembly, disclosed his preferred choice of candidate for the Senate leadership while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday.

According to the governor, he decided to endorse Senator Lawan rather than Senator Ndume, who also hails from the same state as him, because the former has the support of both his constituents and the ruling party.

He noted that although Senator Ndume said he launched his Senate Presidency bid based on the wishes of the Borno people, he (Shettima) was not aware of such mandate as governor of the state.

He said, “Ndume said his people asked him to contest. But I am the number one citizen of the state. I am not one of the people that asked him to contest. “
