Sergej Milinkovic-Savic came off the bench to score a late header that set up Lazio’s dramatic 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final.

Atalanta were the better side at Lazio’s Stadio Olimpico Stadium, hitting the goal post in either side of the half during the game on Wednesday.

But substitute Savic broke the deadlock for Lazio, powering home a Lucas Leiva corner, before Joaquin Correa wrapped it up in the 90th minute.

The trophy is Lazio’s first Coppa Italia crown since 2013. The team had lost two of the past four finals to Juventus.

Marten de Roon hit the post as Atalanta made a great start. In another incident, the Gian Piero Gasperini-led side failed to force the ball home.

Simeone Inzaghi had seen enough of his side’s problems containing Atalanta, and introduced Stefan Radu for Bastos, following waves of first half bookings.

Atalanta, who were in their first Coppa final since 1996, continued to make the running with Timothy Castagne recording the game’s first shot on target.

He forced a low save from Thomas Strakosha after the restart.

They hit the bar again in the 76th minute, when Alejandro Gomez found a pocket of space near the touch line, but his drive hit the outside of the post.
