Championship club, Middlesbrough, have sent good luck message to Mikel Obi, who has been included in the Super Eagles 25-man provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite not featuring in any of the Eagles’ qualifiers for the 2019 AFCON, Mikel was included in Gernot Rohr’s provisional squad released on Tuesday.
Reacting to Mikel’s inclusion, Middlesbrough wrote on their verified Twitter handle:”Good luck to @mikel_john_obi, who has been named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the AFCON.”
Mikel joined Middlesbrough from Tianjin Teda during the January transfer window on a free transfer.
He made 19 appearances for the Tony Pulis’ side, and scored just one goal as they failed to secure a promotion play-off spot.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group B alongside debutants Burundi and Madagascar, as well as Guinea at this year’s tournament, which kicks off next month in Egypt.
