The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has said 21 illegal universities and a place operated as a camp for participants of the National Youth Service Corps scheme have been shut.
Jimoh Bulus Mai, ICPC Sokoto Office Officer, the representative of Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman, ICPC, said this at a one-day interactive seminar for religious leaders in Kebbi state.
“We closed 21 illegal degree awarding institutions and fake NYSC camps across Nigeria. We are prosecuting their proprietors now,” he said at the sensitization seminar.
The ICPC said the seminar was to enlighten the religious leaders on the ICPC Act 2000 while challenging them to make positive impact on anti-graft war in Nigeria.
“To effectively address the pervasive nature of corruption in the society, the commission adopted a holistic approach to combating corruption, through the combination of enforcement, prevention and public education strategies,” he added.
