Abou-Rida, the president of the Egyptian football federation, has resigned from his position after the Pharaohs were eliminated from the ongoing 2019 AFCON being hosted by them.

Egypt were lackluster in their 1-0 loss to South Africa on Saturday night at the packed Cairo International Stadium in the Round of 16, and were punished in the 85th minute, when Thembinkosi Lorch’s found the back of the net.

According to reports, head coach of the team, Javier Aguirre, and his backroom staff has reportedly been sacked after the shocking exit in front of the home crowd.

The Egyptians struggled to create chances, with their best two opportunities falling to Mohammed Trezeguet, while Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was largely kept quiet.

It ended their dream of winning 8th African Cup of Nations title on home soil.
