Aisha Buhari, the First Lady, has applauded the judiciary over its adjudication of rape cases brought before law courts in the country.

Buhari made the commendation in a post on her official Twitter handle on Friday in reaction to a video showing a clergy who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl.

The First Lady, who had recently tasked Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police, and all Nigerians to collectively combat the scourge of rape in Nigeria, shared the video on her Twitter page.

Simon Lough, the Police Prosecution Counsel, said in the video that the convict was a pastor whom the girl, being his church member, looked up to as a father.

Lough said the court sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment.

“For the first count of rape, he was given seven-year imprisonment; while for second count of attempt to commit abortion, he was given five-year imprisonment ” he said.

Reacting, Buhari wrote on her timeline: “#TheJudiciaryisWorking #JusticeForRapeVictims.”
