Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, has urged the party to discipline Senator Elijah Abbo for publicly assaulting a fellow citizen.
Senator Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North senatorial district, was filmed slapping a nursing woman during an altercation at a sex toy shop in early May.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the former vice president said the embattled Senator, whom he admitted to having acquaintance with, must be probed by his party, the PDP, and investigated by the Police irrespective of his current status over the act, which he described as inexcusable.
Atiku added that Senator Abbo must publicly own up to his behaviour and apologise to the assaulted woman.
The post read: “I have seen the alleged assault video involving Sen. Elisha Abbo. The video is sad, inexcusable. I know the Senator quite well. But the law is clear and leaders must lead by example.
”I advise him to publicly apologize, voluntarily go to the police and show a good example expected of a young leader. I also call on our party, the PDP, to take necessary disciplinary action and the Nigerian Police to ensure the law takes its full course.”
