Bayern Munich, defender, Jerome Boateng, has been charged for allegedly assaulting his former partner, German prosecutors claimed on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Anne Leiding told SID that an investigation into the claims began in 2018 and charges were brought forward in 2019.
“The Munich prosecutor’s office has had proceedings open against Jerome Boateng for dangerous assault since autumn 2018. Following extensive investigations, charges were brought on February 11, 2019,” said Leiding.
Leiding also said that police are investigating another incident that is alleged to have happened to the same victim.
“Moreover, the police are currently investigating another case of suspected personal injury to the detriment of the same victims,” added Leiding.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner’s representatives have released a statement denying the charges.
According to SZ , the law firm said: “It is a private matter, which is basically based on unproven accusations of a third party.”
Boateng has made one appearance for Bayern this season, playing the full 90 minutes in their 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup.
