President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, to proceed with the recruitment of 774,000 persons in the Special Public Works Programme.
TheCable reports that senior presidential sources disclosed the president’s directive to it.
Keyamo and the National Assembly had disagreed over the process of the recruitment, with the latter insisting on dictating the process.
The National Assembly than ordered a suspension of the programme over the face-off with Keyamo.
Buhari was reportedly angry after Keyamo informed him of his encounter at the National Assembly. He therefore ordered Keyamo to continue with the execution of the programme but adhere to existing laws.
He also asked the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to halt any alternative plan on the programme with the Assembly committee.
