President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Victor Giadom as the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was made known to State House Correspondents by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, during an interview at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to Shehu, President Buhari has endorsed Giadom, the APC’s former deputy national secretary, because he is recognised by law as the ruling party’s acting Chairman.
The presidential aide confirmed that his principal will attend the virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting called by Giadom tomorrow.
Shehu said: “The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman. Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon,” he said.
“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.
“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly.”
The National Working Committee of the APC has been enmeshed in a leadership crisis following the judgement of the Court of Appeal (Abuja Division) which upheld the decision of an FCT High Court that barred Adams Oshimohole from parading himself as the party’s National Chairman.
The APC NWC subsequently announced Ajimobi, the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South) as the party’s acting National Chairman pending the determination of the suit against Oshiomhole.
But with Ajimobi not available, the NWC announced that Eta will act on the former Oyo State governor’s behalf.
However, Giadom the former deputy national secretary of the party, declared himself acting chairman, citing a subsisting court order.
