Chelsea may end Alvaro Morata’s 18-month loan spell at Atletico Madrid this summer, despite the striker wanting to stay in the Spanish capital, a report says.
Morata signed for the Blues for £60 million in 2017 from Real Madrid but has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, scoring just 15 goals in all competitions during the 2017/18 season.
Maurizio Sarri, who took charge at the club last summer, sent the Spaniard on loan to Atletico having failed to establish himself, with Sarri bringing in Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus.
But Morata has found his confidence in front of goal again at Atletico while also playing regular football.
According to The Mirror, Sarri’s departure back to Italy, Atletico’s disposition of not yet wanting to exercise their option to buy the player on a permanent deal, Chelsea’s transfer ban, as well as Eden Hazard leaving to join Real Madrid, could inform the Europa League winners’ decision to bring back Higuain from his loan spell.
Diego Simeone’s side would want to keep the Spanish international, as the player himself had been quoted as saying he doesn’t see himself returning to London, saying that the city is “big and stressful.”
