English Premier League club, Chelsea, has announced the signing of American youngster, Christian Pulisic, from German league leaders, Borrusia Dortmund.
Pulisic was signed by the English club for a reported fee of £58 million
In a statement issued by Chelsea on Wednesday, the 20-year old winger described it as a “privilege” to have signed for the club.
“It’s a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world-class players,” he said.
He would, however, remain in the Bundesliga with Dortmund on loan till the end of the season.
Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea director, expressed her delight at Pulisic’s purchase, saying she anticipates that the young American would fulfil his potential at the club.
“We are delighted to have signed one of Europe’s most sought-after young players,” she said.
“Christian has shown his quality during a fantastic spell in Germany and at just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come.”
Pulisic made his Bundesliga debut, aged 17, in January 2016, and two months later won his first USA cap.
He has played 81 games in the German top flight and 20 in the Champions League.
He has scored three goals in 18 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund this season.
Pulisic has, however, fallen in the pecking order in Champions League games, with England international Jadon Sancho preferred in the position by coach Lucien Favre.
