Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Sergio Aguero on Sunday, ensured that Argentina booked a place in the quarter-final of the Copa America in Brazil.
The 2-0 victory over Qatar means the Albiceleste finished Group B on four points from three matches.
They will now face Venezuela on Friday at Rio’s Maracana Stadium.
Lionel Messi, the team captain, who turns 32 on Monday (today), said the qualification ticket will give them an important boost.
“The important thing was to win to keep going in the Copa, to get through the group stage,” Messi said.
“This will be an important boost for what’s to come … another Copa begins now.
“This victory must give us strength and make us grow as a team.”
Argentina’s performance was far from perfect, but they were good enough to beat a Qatar side, who gifted the South Americans the opening goal after four minutes, when Bassam Hicham played a terrible ball across his own box straight to Martinez.
Aguero, who was recalled after being dropped for the 1-1 draw with Paraguay in the second game, lacked sharpness and precision in his finishing. He however got his goal in some style, running past two defenders before shooting high into the far corner.
