Court Adjourns Misau’s Trial Till April 25

Justice Ishaq Bello of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, Tuesday, adjourned Senator Isah Misau’s case till April 25. The lawmaker representing Bauchi Senatorial District is facing trial on a seven-count charge of injurious falsehood.

Misau’s case was adjourned to enable the counsels address the court on a subpoena issue.

Paul Erokoro (SAN), counsel to the defendant, had told the court at one of the sittings that the subpoena was for the prosecution to produce some documents in relation to the alleged offences.

He said that it was also for the Inspector of Police to come and testify for the defendant.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Dr Alex Izinyon (SAN), said out of the 15 documents, three were in the public domain, while others could not be produced to the public due to their security nature.

Izinyon had told the court that between Aug. 27 and Oct. 5, 2017, the defendant made some injurious statements against the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

Newsbreak.ng reports that Misau, a former police officer, had alleged official malfeasances, including bribe-taking and illicit affair with a policewoman, against IGP Idris. Among other things, Misau claimed the IGP collects N10 billion from individuals and oil marketers to provide them security. He also alleged the IGP had monetized the posting of police personnel.
