A High Court in Ibadan has set aside the elevation of 21 high chiefs and baales as kings in Ibadan, the Oyo State Governor.
Former Governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, had elevated the traditional rulers, handing them crowns to the annoyance of Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
In granting the terms of settlement jointly filed by the state government and the claimant who doubles as the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, Justice A. Aderemi said since the parties had met and agreed, he was left with no option but to set aside the gazette.
Ladoja in 2018 won a landmark judgment which quashed all the processes that led to the coronation of his fellow high chiefs and some Baales numbering 21 on August 27, 2017 by the Ajimobi government.
The state government, who was not satisfied with the judgment, approached the Court of Appeal. The appeal was pending at the court as of the time Ajimobi left office on May 29.
