Court Dismisses PDP’s Suit Against Osun Polls

The suit, filed at a Federal High Court, Osogbo, seeking to nullify the April 2011 elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State, has been dismissed. The Peoples Democratic Party, which initiated the suit, prayed the court to declare null and void elections conducted by the then Resident Electoral Commission, Ambassador Rufus Akeju. To support its prayer, the PDP relied on a judgment by the same court on 28 March, 2011, r barring Akeju from conducting the National and State Assembly elections.

PDP’s counsel, Moses Ojo made the submission, among three other reliefs sought.

Before dismissing the suit, the judge stated that only the election Petitions tribunal could give such orders.

The PDP’s counsel said the ruling would be appealed.
