Critics Of My Vocabulary Are Intellectually Lazy -Obahiagbon

Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon, Chief of Staff to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has disclosed that a  huge percentage of the big-sounding English words he deploys comes from newspapers. The former House of Representatives member, who is seeking a senatorial ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, also accused critics of his vocabulary of intellectual laziness.

In an interview with THE NATION, Obahiagbon, whose reputation for bombast has ensured he is seen as nothing more than a figure of fun, said: “50 per cent of what people call my verbal armoury comes from newspapers”.

The senatorial aspirant said he has read at least seven newspapers daily over the last 20 years and that those who criticise him need to become more intellectually vibrant.

“The question that should be asked is: Are my oracular orations figments of my imagination? Are they not subjects of literary studies? So, it is for people to rise up from the intellectual laziness and have the willingness to improve their grey matter. The media are the sources of my mental strength,” he said.

Asked if he was aware that his colleagues during his time at the House of Representatives considered him a comedian, Obahiagbon said he laughs off comments describing him as a comedian.

“The oxymoron in this observation is that sometimes, when I hear people laugh themselves into a state of coca oral in reaction to my speech, whereas they are amused by my communication, I myself get amused. At times, I say to myself that it is either something is wrong with them or something is wrong with me. But like I have always posited, I never set out to advertently obfuscate my audience. Neither do I set out to deposit my audience in my portmateu. It is just that I put my nose to the grindstone. I am inebriated by in my aqua immolation,” he said.
