Some operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service have allegedly killed a 25-year-old father of two in Ajilete, an area in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. The men were said to have been on a mission to prevent some smugglers from bringing in vehicles to the state from the Idiroko border before the victim, Paul Ayomaya, was hit by a stray bullet. The smugglers were said to have been hauling stones at the operatives, forcing them to reply with gunfire. Ayomaya, who was said to have been on a motorbike, was hit by one of the stray bullets and died on the spot. Another account says the deceased had gone to the area to watch the fight between the smugglers and the Customs men before he was hit by the bullet. A resident of the area, Akanbi, told Punch Metro that the deceased had planned moving to his new house, with his family, in December. Abdullahi Maiwada, Public Relations Officer, NCS, Ogun Area Command, confirmed the incident but said he could not confirm if the bullet that killed the victim was from a Customs officer.
