By 10:30 p.m, on 3 January, Basirat Jimoh, 30, unsuspectingly walked into her death. Her killer: a reckless driver, named Hakeem Afolabi. Aside Basirat, Afolabi also injured a pregnant woman, Folasayo Lawal her four-year old daughter and a pedestrian, all along Samuel Street, off Ayodele Mafoluku, Oshodi, in Lagos. The said pedestrian has since been in intensive hospital care. Immediately the incident occurred, Afolabi abandoned his victims and fled the scene. He was later arrested and charged with a four-count charge, including reckless driving, by the police. During his arraignment before a magistrate court in Oshodi, the police prosecutors told the court that Afolabi drove his Honda Car ( Bulldog), with registration number, EKY 508 BR, in a careless manner, which resulted in the incident. The police said Afolabi’s action contravened the state’s Traffic Law. The magistrate, L. O. Owolabi, granted Afolabi a bail of N300,000 and two sureties in like sum. He therefore adjourned further hearing on the matter till February 23, 2015.
