A man has allegedly butchered his grandfather in a community in Imo, South East Nigeria. Chukwuebuka Umunna, 22, son of the deceased’s second child, was said to have got angry after the latter admonished him to turn away from his unruly behaviours. “He had been asked to fetch bamboo for yam tendrils on the deceased’s farm” , Chigaemezu, Chukwuebuka’s brother said. The killer grandson was rankled by the errand, coming after he had been tongue-lashed. Chukwuebuka transferred aggression to his younger brother, ordering him out of the house, and the latter willingly obeyed. Chigaemezu ‘s absence gave the brother some room to carry out his premeditated plot oof killing his grandfather. Chigaemezu returning to meet their dead grandfather, with machete cuts on his body, raised an alarm. The murder of the 100-year-old by his grandson, seen as abomination in the Umuoke Otulu Ahiara Autonomous community in Ahiazu Mbaise Council Area, where it happened sent a shock wave to villagers.
Mystified, Julian Umunna, Chukwuebuka ‘s father, said his son’ s act was inexplicable given that he was the decade’s favourite grandchild . He gave a bit of how obstinate his son is. Julian said Chukwuebuka is a secondary school dropout and had refused to learn a vacation despite their prodding him to do so.
“Chukwuebuka has been uncontrollable and stubborn and he smokes Indian hemp openly and bullies anybody who cautions him. He was quarrelling with my father when I was going to work that morning. I was shocked to hear a few hours later that he had killed my father with a machete. It was a very sad incident because such a thing had never happened in this entire village, ” the father said. The deceased has been kept at the Madonna Hospital mortuary, while police say investigation had commenced.
