EFCC Secures Court Order To Extend Maina, Son’s Detention

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has secured an order of a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Bwari, Abuja, to detain former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, and his son, Faisal, pending conclusion of investigations.

The extension order was granted to the anti-graft agency on October 7, 2019,  followed an ex parte application by the commission, asking it to remand the defendants in custody for further two weeks.
 

According to the Guardian, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, who disclosed the development in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said the court noted that the order was subject to review, if necessary.

Maina and his son were arrested at an Abuja hotel by the Department of State Services (DSS), and were subsequently handed to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.

According to reports, Maina’s son allegedly confronted the DSS officials with a gun for which he does not have a license, while restraining them for arresting his father over allegations of fraud and money laundering amounting to N2.1 billion.
