Eggs, Walnuts, Other Foods That Can Enhance Your Smartness

Foods like eggs, Walnut among others have been classified to enhance one’s smartness.

Countless articles have been written that focus on food that can help you lose weight, improve your skin, or help you stay well, but what about foods that may be able to help you be a bit smarter?

Try some of these foods below;

Walnuts contain brain-boosting omega-3 fatty acids, and may even be able to reverse some cognitive damage that’s already been done. A small handful of walnuts every day or so is probably all you need to enjoy the benefits that they offer.

These probably aren’t something you see often, but adding them to your diet once in a while is good for brain health. Beets contain B vitamins that are vital for optimum brain function, and for the entire nervous system. B vitamins can help improve memory, and may even serve as a kind of natural antidepressant for many people.

Eggs are not the villain they were once portrayed to be by so-called health “experts” that said they contained too much cholesterol. The fact that the brain is practically made of cholesterol demonstrates how vital it is to make sure you are getting your share. Eggs are another food that contain omega-3 fatty acids, and are regarded by some as the ideal brain food. It’s best to seek out eggs from free-range hens since tests have shown that they contain twice as much as standard store-bought eggs.

Coffee is something else that has been talked down in certain circles, mostly because it contains caffeine, but a bit of a caffeine jolt here and there can actually do your brain some good. Research suggests that the amount of caffeine found in a cup of coffee – about 80 milligrams – is just enough to improve brain function, including both short and long-term memory. Coffee may be particularly beneficial for the elderly who are at higher risk for cognitive problems.

This one is somewhat of a “no-brainer” since just about everyone likes either blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or strawberries. Both blueberries and raspberries contain anthocyanin, which helps to protect neurons that are associated with memory. Strawberries contain fisetin, a compound that is also linked to improved memory function. One medical research study found that eating a cup of blueberries per day can improve memory noticeably after just a few months.

Granted, hot and spicy food is not everyone’s cup of tea, but those who love things like hot peppers should be encouraged to indulge to their heart’s content. The substance that makes peppers hot – capsaicin – is known to have beneficial effects on the brain. It turns out the brain has numerous receptors for capsaicin, and when the brain is exposed to it, it helps to calm the nerves and improve the ability to focus.

Here’s another vegetable that should probably get more credit for its health benefits that it generally does. Brussels sprouts contain ingredients that are converted by the body into something called diindolymethane, a compound that is very helpful for the body’s immune system in its efforts to protect new brain cells.

Eating flax seeds will probably not lift someone out of a serious depression, but as part of a healthy diet, they may be beneficial in the fight against it. The omega-3 fatty acids found in flax seeds may also help with other brain-related issues like memory, and the ability to focus.

This up-and-coming oil contains medium-chain triglyceride or MCTs, which have been shown to be extremely beneficial for brain health. Studies have even shown that coconut oil can benefit Alzheimer’s patients by improving their memory almost immediately. Although the word “oil” often makes people think of foods that are likely to cause then to gain weight, the opposite is true in this case. The MCTs found in coconut oil actually help reduce belly fat.
