Equatorial Guinea To Host 2015 AFCON

Equatorial Guinea has been selected by the Confederation of the African Football, CAF as host of the 2015 African Cup of Nations, AFCON after Morocco was disqualified over fears of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD in some parts of Africa.

Morocco was thrown out after asking CAF to postpone the tournament, which is due to begin on 17 January. Equatorial Guinea were also thrown out of the tournament in July for fielding an illegible player during the qualifying process, but will now be reinstated as hosts.

Dr Kofi Amoah, who organised the 2008 edition in Ghana has already expressed fears that starting the tournament on time will be impossible, “It could be a sham. I don’t think there is enough time for anyone to do it,” Amoah said. CAF President Issa Hayatou insists: “The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations must absolutely take place from 17 January to 8 February.”
