Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has filed a fundamental human rights enforcement action against the police, The Punch has reported. Evans filed the case before the Federal High Court in Lagos. The kidnapping suspect is challenging his detention for about 18 days without being charged to court. saying its an infringement in his human rights.
The respondents in the said suit marked FHC/L/CS/1012/2017 are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command. The suit was filed by a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje.
He is seeking a court order asking the police to release him unconditionally if he has not committed any offence to warrant him being charged to court.
