FG Suspends Planned Resumption Of Unity Schools

The Federal Government has suspended the planned resumption of unity schools on 4 August.

Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, announced this at a press briefing after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Adamu also announced that students of unity schools and the Federal Government-owned secondary schools will not participate in the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The minister noted that the schools will remain closed until in its safe to reopen in the wake of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He stated that the Federal Government prefers for Nigerian students to lose an academic year than to expose them to health dangers.

He also urged state governments that have announced school resumption plans to consider reversing such plan.

He insisted that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) cannot determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria.
