The newly-formed government in The Gambia has appointed Amadou Sanneh Finance minister. Sanneh, until three days ago, was a political prison jailed by disgraced former leader of The Gambia, Yahyah Jammeh.
Also appointed was Jammeh’s long-time opponent, Ousainou Darboe, who equally spent time in jail as a political prisoner. Darboe, according to the AFP news agency, has been made foreign minister.
Jammeh’s rule came to a shameful end after he was defeated in a presidential poll by Adama Barrow. Jammeh made a volte face after his concession of defeat. He was eventually persuaded by the Guinean and Mauritius Presidents to step down from power.
