Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has condoled with Luis Enrique over the death of his daughter, Xana, on Thursday.
Enrique, a former teammate of Guardiola at Barcelona, where both of them also worked as coach at different times, confirmed on Twitter that the girl, 9, died after five years of battle with cancer.
The former Spain coach paid tribute to the child on the social media, which led to flurry of condolence messages around the world.
Guardiola at his pre-match press conference ahead of City’s Premier League clash against Brighton this weekend, offered support to Enrique.
“We knew it was not good, but always you dream everything is going well. I don’t have words, there is absolutely nothing to say,” he said.
“Always you try to find reasons why, but there is no argument for a little girl, only nine years old.
“From Manchester City and my family, we are here, and hopefully soon I can see him and tell him how I love him and his family.”
