Gunmen Kidnap Hospital CMD, Kill Two Policemen

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Sylvanus Okogbenin, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Irrua, Edo State.

Okogbenin was said to be travelling to the Benin airport on Monday when the gunmen attacked his vehicle at the Ramat park area of Benin City, the state capital.

It was also gathered that two policemen in the CMD’s convoy were killed by the attackers.

According to eyewitnesses, Okogbenin, a professor of medicine, was subsequently abducted after the killing of the policemen.

Two other persons in the convoy whose identities were yet to be ascertained were shot in the leg, the Punch reports.

DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command, has confirmed the incident, adding that said investigation has commenced.

The abduction of Okogbenin comes a week after two Assistant Directors of the hospital were kidnapped and were subsequently released after the purported payment of a ransom to their abductors.
