Gunman Shoots Corps Member Dead

Unknown gunmen have reportedly shot a female corps member, Charity Thilza, dead while she was returning from a nightclub along Wuse 2 Road, Abuja.

The 25-year-old graduate of Linguistics and English from the University of Maiduguri was said to have attended a show with four of her friends on Monday night. They were returning from the event when the gunmen opened fire on the car they were in.

Thilza, who was sitting at the backseat of the vehicle, was hit by some bullets while one of her friends identified only as Lola sustained injuries. The former died before she was rushed to the hospital.

It was gathered that the deceased served at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in Abuja and was due to pass out from NYSC on Thursday (today).

The spokesperson for the NYSC, Federal Capital Territory, Abosede Aderibigbe, confirmed the incident. She said the corps was making efforts to ensure the release of the corpse for burial.

“The victim was our member with code number, FCT/15a/5295. She was supposed to pass out on Thursday (today). We learnt she and her friends went clubbing.

“When they were coming back around 3am in a flashy car, armed robbers trailed them. When they could not get them, they shot at the car and the bullets hit her.

“They tried rushing her to the National Hospital, Abuja, but she died on the way. The family members are in Abuja with the NYSC coordinator. The corpse is with the police. Possibly, it will be released for burial tomorrow (Thursday)”, she said.
