How Aganga Caused Lawyers’ Protest Against CAC – Registrar

The Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Bello Mahmud, has explained, among other things, how a software manager brought to manage the commission’s database by Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, was responsible for its operational glitch. He made the explanation to a protest staged by lawyers on Monday over poor services the commission renders. The aggrieved lawyers took similar action in February and are claiming things have worsened in the commission since their last protest. They also claimed to have lost clients and revenue owing to the situation, while asking that the registrar-general and his management to quit office.

Although, Mahmud admitted the commission the operational problems, he debunked the insinuation that some of its activities  have been totally grounded.

Mahmud explained that “The reason for this is that the vendor the commission was using shut the commission’s system down, making the system inaccessible, and that was as soon as he got part payment for the work he had done.

“He did that because the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, brought in a new company to manage the software of the commission; and now that the commission is switching to a new software, we had an agreement with the old vendor that we would continue our contract with his company, but he still went ahead and shut down the system,

“I gave him a good assurance, even wanting to go into a written agreement with him, but he was not convinced. I assured him that we would continue to do business, but he still went ahead and shut the system, as he could not imagine someone else coming with a new software to take over his job.

“Luckily, the CAC has a database, which the new vendor used for installation; that is what has helped the commission.”
