A man, Lucky Ameyi, has confessed to the police he was among a specialist kidnap gang that abducted Professor Paul Eriye of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) at Ekpoma, Edo State. The late professor of Agricultural Economics and Extension was said to have been gagged to death by his abductors, who aimed to prevent him from making a noise when he was kidnapped on 16 June, 2015. Ameyi, nicknamed Nigga, member of a six-man gang, was arrested and paraded by the Edo state police command following the kidnap and eventual release of three Chinese. The professor’s corpse was exhumed from where the gang buried him on 1 October. Others arrested by the police included a “notorious” kidnap leader, Charles Ohwofase.
