Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, have said the increment in fees at its Staff School is to enable it pay salaries owed the teachers. The university’s spokesman, Abiodun Olanrewaju, said this in reaction to the protest by teachers and parents at the school on Tuesday. While the teachers protested three months unpaid salaries, the parents frowned at the hiked fees from N1,600 to N20,000 for staff and N2,500 to N20,500 for non-staff. Ademola Oketunde, chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), OAU chapter, urged the school management rethink its decision.
