INEC’s Election Officer Dies In Boat Mishap In Kogi

An ad-hoc election officer who served in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State has died after a boat mishap.

This was announced by Professor James Apam, the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at the collation of the election results in Lokoja, the state capital, on Sunday.

According to the Kogi REC, the deceased, who was a student of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, lost his life in the incident while carrying election materials to Ibaji Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

He, however, did not mention the name of the victim.

Apam announced that the electoral commission expects the corpse of the late official to be retrieved and brought to Lokoja.

A one-minute silence was observed in honour of the deceased.
