Invitation Letters To Dakolos, Polite Legitimate Tool For Investigation – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it sent its operatives to the residence of Busola and Timi Dakolo to serve invitation letters to the couple concerning the rape allegations levelled by the former against Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assemblies.

Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in reaction to the public backlash over the sudden appearance of officials of the Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Squad at the couple’s residence.

The Dakolos had, via Timi’s Instagram account, raised an alarm on Saturday over the apperance of the squad team in an unmarked police vehicle at his residence, insinuating that his wife was being intimidated to recant her allegations against the COZA pastor.

But responding, the police said the letters served to the Dakolos was not an arrest warrant, but a legitimate tool for investigation, which is generally used to unravel the circumstances around an allegation or crime.

The police stated that it had acted within its constutional duties to serve the letter as the couple’s allegations against Fatoyinbo was a well publicised case.

The statement read: “The invitation is sequel to an on-going police investigation touching on the wider and highly publicized case involving Busola Dakolo, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and others.

“it is important however to note that a Police Invitation Letter is not synonymous with a Warrant of Arrest and must not be construed to be one. Rather, it is a polite investigative tool used in eliciting information voluntarily from parties to aid police investigations.

“Members of the public should see it as a legitimate act in line with the constutional mandate of the police, which among other things include the investigation of all complaints brought before it.”
