Joy Alake, a 27-year-old woman, has been ordered to sweep a court premises in Abuja for two weeks as punishment for stealing nine pieces of wrapper and four skirts.
Sani Mohammed, the judge at Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), gave the order on Wednesday, after the convict pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal trespass and theft.
She also begged the court for leniency.
Mohammed warned her to desist from committing such crimes.
The judge also ordered the police to release the recovered wrappers to the complainant, Rosemary Akande.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, had told the court that the complainant reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on October 30.
According to him, Akande alleged that the convict entered her shop in Karu and stole the items valued at the sum of N68,000.
The prosecutor said Alake confessed to committing the crime during police investigation.
He stated that the offence is punishable under the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
