Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has said despite Buruji Kashamu’s use of law and politics to avoid justice for alleged crime in and outside Nigeria, death has snatched him away.
He said this in a condolence letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Saturday.
“Senator Buruji Kashamu in his lifetime used the maneuver of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria,” Obasanjo said.
“But no legal, political, cultural, social, or even medical maneuver could stop the cold hand of death when the Creator of all of us decides that the time is up.
“May Allah forgive his sin and accept his soul into Aljanah, and may God grant his family and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Kashamu had been in a long legal battle with the Federal Government over his extradition to the United States to face drug trafficking charges.
He died of complications due to COVID-19 at First Cardiologist Consultants, a hospital in Lagos.
