Kwara Govt Demolishes Saraki’s ‘Political Home’

The Kwara State Government has demolished ‘Ile Arugbo’, a political home to the Sarakis in Ilorin, the state capital.

The building was demolished in the early hours of Thursday after security operatives dispersed protesters from the complex.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had annunced in December that the property belonging to late Olusola Saraki was acquired illegally. He said the land was originally designated for the construction of a secretariat and parking lot of the civil service clinic, but that it was unlawfully allocated to a private firm — Asa Investments Limited — without any record of payment to the state government.

However, Bukola Saraki, the former senate president, said his father had acquired the land from the Kwara State Government in the 80s and had a Right of Occupancy.
