La Liga: Messi Scores Four As Barcelona Thrash Eibar

Lionel Messi scored four goals as reigning champions Barcelona thumped Eibar 5-0 in a La Liga fixture at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

Messi scored three goals in 26 first-half minutes in the 13th, 37th and 40th minute.

The Barcelona captain scored a fourth goal from an assist by substitute Martin Braithwaite, who made his debut for the Catalan club.

Arthur added a fifth two minutes later after Braithwaite was denied.

Messi is La Liga’s top scorer with 17 goals this season.

Braithwaite’s contribution and Messi’s return to form delivered a timely boost ahead of what could prove a pivotal few days in Barca’s season.

Barcelona move two points above rivals Real Madrid, who face Levante later on Saturday.

The defending champions’ win comes before they play away at in-form Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday and face title rivals Real Madrid next weekend in the La Liga.
