The Lagos State House of Assembly has refused to confirm three individuals out of the 38 nominated by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor, as commissioners and special advisers.
The affected persons are Olanrewaju Sanusi, Obafemi George and Adekemi Ajayi-Bembe.
No official reason was provided for the denial of the confirmation, but Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said Governor Sanwo-Olu could re-nominate the trio if he so wished.
However, the house confirmed 35 others as commissioners and special advisers-designate.
The confirmed individuals are Oladele Ajayi, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, Yetunde Arobieke, Kabiru Abdullahi, Joe Igbokwe, Bonu Saanu, Lola Akande, Anofi Elegushi, Solape Hammond and Moruf Akinderu-Fatai.
Others are Shulamite Adebolu, Tokunbo Wahab, Rabiu Olowo Onaolapo, Folashade Adefisayo, Akin Abayomi, Idris Salako, Tunji Bello, Gbenga Omotoso, Toke Benson-Awoyinka and Bolaji Dada.
Lere Odusote, Frederick Oladeinde, Gbolahan Lawal, Wale Ahmed, Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN), Hakeem Fahm, Ajibola Ponle, Aramide Adeyoye, Segun Dawodu, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Sam Egube, Ruth Bisola Olusanya, Aderemi Adebowale, Tunbosun Alake and Afolabi Ayantayo were also confirmed by the house.
Speaking after the confirmation hearing, Obasa urged the commissioners and special advisers-designate to be committed to their duties and work towards achieving a greater Lagos.
The Speaker also said the House will perform its oversight functions diligently, warning that it would sanction any member of the cabinet whose performance is questioned.
“Even after the confirmation, we will continue to monitor whatever offices you are assigned to ensure value for public funds. We will continue to oversee your activities. We will not hesitate to pass a vote of no confidence in anyone found wanting,” he said.
