Akinde Adeniyi, a husband, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun State for allegedly pouring hot water on his wife, Alani Deborah.
It was learnt that Adeniyi reportedly committed the act after deeming that his wife was unfaithful to him.
Inspector Ona Glory, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on 14 April around 12:30 am at Oke-Owu area of Modakeke-Ife.
The prosecutor said the defendant poured hot water mixed with pepper on his wife, which caused her bodily harm.
She added that the offence contravened section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Filing an oral bail application, Pius Oyeboade, the defence counsel, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail in the most liberal term, giving assurance that his client would not jump bail but provide reliable surety.
Joseph Owolawi, the presiding magistrate, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned the matter till 4 June for hearing.
