The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Idorenyin Essien, who allegedly poured kerosene on his son and burnt him to death.
The incident occurred at Afia Nsit community in Eket Local Government Area of the state. DSP Mac-Don Achibe, spokesperson of the command, confirmed the development while speaking with journalists in Eket on Tuesday.
He said the incident, which occurred on August 30, was reported to the police by Essien’s neighbours.
Achibe stated that the case would be charged to court after police conclude their investigation.
The 35-year-old was said to have burnt his son to death for allegedly stealing N500 from a neighbour’s house to buy food.
Neighbours disclosed that Essien sent the minor to buy kerosene, which he did, before his father tied him with a rope, doused him with kerosene and set him ablaze.
The boy was rushed to the hospital, but later died of his injuries.
