Mechanic Jailed For Stealing Diesel

A mechanic, Afeez Bello, has been jailed for six months for stealing 30 litres of diesel valued at N30, 000.

Bello, 27, was sentenced by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday and was also given N10,000 option of fine by the judge, Abubakar Sadiq.

Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crime.

He said that the sentence was would serve as deterrent to others.

The convict, who resides at Jabi Daki-biyu, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft upon his plea of guilty.

He, however, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he committed the crime due to hunger.

The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that Felix Tor and Aondohemba Ikyernum of Abraham Plaza, Utako in Abuja reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Jan. 6.

Dalhatu said that the complainants said on Jan. 5, the convict dishonestly stole thirty litres of diesel valued at N30, 000.

He said that during police investigation, the diesel was recovered.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
