Relegated Premier League club Middlesbrough have terminated Victor Valdes, their goalkeeper’s contract. The Spanish keeper joined the Riverside outfit after leaving Barcelona, where he won the Champions League in 2006, 2008 and 2011. A rib injury had hindered his season at the club.
Announcing his departure by mutual consent in a statement, the club also announced that American keeper, Brad Guzan will be leaving to join Atlanta United. The team is expected to lose a number of players in cutting costs. Highly-rated defender Ben Gibson is also rumoured to be on his way out following their demotion to the Championship.
The team finished second from bottom, 12 points from safety.
