By Mariam Odebiyi

A yet-to-be identified woman has confessed being member of a female kidnap gang that came to Lagos from the Republic of Benin. The woman reportedly told a blood-baying mob that 27 of them were in the gang, and usually communicated their kidnap operations via telephone.

The said woman was attacked and stripped by the mob who accused her of kidnap. The mob alleged her modus operandi was to pretend like a mentally deranged, while engaging in criminal act.

The hysterical mob put a tire around the woman’s neck, with the aim of setting fire to her. The arrival of policemen from Okokomaiko division saved the woman.

Dolapo Badmos, assistant superintendent and spokesman for Lagos Police Command, said the woman was incoherent and appeared mentally unstable. “It was while wandering about that some people suspected her to be a kidnapper”. However, she confirmed the case is being investigated by the State Department of Criminal Investigations.
