Gabriella Engels, the South African model said to have been attacked by Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe, has challenged the diplomatic immunity granted her to leave the country. Engels, alongside Afriforum, has filed a suit at the High Court in Pretoria aimed at invalidating the diplomatic immunity. According to Sowetan Live, Engels wants the court to review and set aside the decision by the Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane to grant Mugabe immunity. Further‚ they want the court to declare that the decision to grant Mugabe immunity does not mean she won’t be prosecuted. The 20-year-old model accused Mugabe of assaulting her and her two friends at a luxury Sandton hotel last week. The first lady who was at the centre of a diplomatic crisis between the two countries flew out of the country under the cover of darkness this past weekend, she was granted her diplomatic immunity.
