Nigerian reggae music icon, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, is dead.
His death was announced on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, by his longtime manager, Umenka Uzoma Day.
“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African number one legendary music icon has gone to be with the LORD his maker, Day said in an Instagram video.
“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”
Fashek was plagued by mysterious illness for years, which greatly affected his music career.
He was one of the biggest music exports from Africa in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
However, things took a different turn when he went on a self-imposed exile, which according to reports, was because of failing health and personal issues.
He bounced back into the music scene a few years ago, and became a regular at selected shows.
Fashek died at the age of 57.
